Solio

My brothers friend came by this morning and showed us this new portable hybrid solar power charger made by Solio. It is so awesome. Its cool because you can take it out camping or on any crazy mission and charge so many different things like your ipod, cell.. or whatever. Check it out at www.solio.com. Its a pretty cool site with a lot of cool stuff.
As far as wind goes, it was pretty light and the waves were tiny so I took the day off of sailing and surfing. The day was sunny and beautiful to just enjoy hanging out on the beach with friends.

Awesome sailing

I had such a great time out sailing Ho'okipa today. The waves were perfect size for me to be able to remain controlled with just enough speed on the waves. I hardly ever do freestyle tricks, but today I made two vulcans and one ok one. This is a big improvement for me! I was so happy. Everytime you get something down that you have been working on a while always feels good. I was super stoked to have such a fun mellow, but rewarding session.

I am not sure how I got on this surf list with a lot of the top women surfers, but I take it as a compliment.

Happy Earth Day

What a beautiful day to celebrate Earth Day! We stopped by Baldwin Beach for a little bit because there was a festival for Earth day. We got there just in time to see the African dancing. It was a great perormance.

The rest of the afternoon a bunch of us from Naish went out to Spartans and Secrets to take more photos. It was such an awesome day out there. I really enjoyed it. Its such a playful wave and you don't have to worry about the rocks like at Ho'okipa. Its just pretty far out so when you fall you just want to get back up and not hang in the water too long! :)
On the inside KP was taking photos too, and got these photos of me.

Big waves Big winds

We did some more photo shooting at Ho'okipa today because the conditions were pretty epic. The set waves were over mast high and the wind was on. It was busy like usual in and out of the water and I was super stoked when ever I got a set wave or made it back out past the waves with out getting pounded. Its always fun to come in just to watch all the guys out there ripping it up, especially my fellow Naish team Robby, Michi and Kai were catching some really nice rides.

My Auntie Leslie took these photos and for the above photo she added the caption, "Butterfly Effect..can you see it?".

Virginia Tech Shooting

I am so sad by the horrific news the other day and to think of how much pain all the family and friends are going through. My heart goes out to all of them...my heart goes out even to the gunman because reading about his past he probably never felt loved or even had a friend and maybe he had been suffering his whole life. This just shows me how the world needs so much healing on all kinds of levels. I guess the best start is to begin with myself and be the change I want to see.

painful rain

Ho'okipa had really nice size waves with a lot of wind. I heard it was gusty all day, but when I went out on my 4.0 I was flying. It wasn't gusty, it was just solid strong wind. The wind was so strong I could barely hang on. Especially when I got on a wave it was ridiculous!..and to top it off it was raining. Windy rain is not to much fun. The rain just becomes super painful drops hitting your face. I had a time limit to be out in the water because of school so I didn't want to go in just because of the rain. The more I stayed out the more I enjoyed the crazy windy rainy conditions and had a fun time.

Butterfly Photos

Butter Fly Effect Accomplished!!

Today we had the down wind coast run from Ho'okipa to Kanaha. My friend Juliana and I organized the all women event with the help of Naish, Dakine, Flatbread Pizza, Costco, Eyal and Dan Rayburn with the jetski and photos, and many friends.
There was a perfect turn out with just about 20 women from all ages and all levels of windsurfing. We had two kitesurfers and a standup paddle boarder join us as well. We stuck together the whole way down the coast to make sure everyone felt comfortable in the ocean waters. We were blessed that the morning showers cleared away to nice sunshine and brought us more than enough wind to fly down the coast with. For many of us, including me, it was the first time to do this. I feel like we all did a great job and had a great experience in the water! It will be an annual event so be sure to join us next time if you didn't go today!

Super gusty days

The wind has been super gusty with no wind and then a puff and then back to no wind. I decided to go for a surf instead, but once when I got out there it seemed windy enough for sailing. Its hard to decide what to actually do on days like this!

Surprise Juliana!

Juliana's boyfriend threw a surprise birthday party for her. She had no clue and was shocked when she came in the door. It was lots of fun with all kinds of different birthday traditions from Brazil and Isreal that I have never seen or heard before!
Happy Birthday Juliana!

Jammin'

Tonight I had a lecture class that goes on for three hours. It gets pretty tedious especially when your talking about history. My mind starts to think of everything besides what the teacher is saying and I feel like it is torture. We got to have a break half way through, so I walked outside for some fresh air. I stood there and got chills because there was this local band just jammin' away and singing. It just woke me up again on how fortunate I am to be having class where I can walk out in a nice breeze and listen to live hawaiian music.

Monk Seal

The monk seal is back! I love it when they come on the beach for a nap. The seal watcher said that the monk is pregnant. I guess next time there will be a tiny little baby seal! cute!

Happy Easter

All of Kanaha beach park down to Kite Beach was so packed full of people and cars like I have never seen it before.
The waves were really fun at Lowers. I shared one wave with a friend criss-crossing down the wave and it was seriously one of the longest waves of my life. It kept going and going and going!! It felt like I made 10-12 turns.. thats pretty long.

ButterFly Effect- MAUI 2007

kitties

Made a visit at the Naish warehouse. The new booms are so nice I love how they are bowed out wider than the older model. It makes everything seem so much easier.
The surf was good early in the day, but got really messy by the end of the day. I hope tomorrow morning will be glassy again.
Later, I went to my friends place to celebrate a birthday and play with the new little kittens. And best of all, today I discovered that my camera can take videos! I was so excited and couldn't believe I had this camera for so long and never knew! I just have to figure out how to put it on the computer now...

KP was MIA on Maui for a good reason

Not only did Kevin Pritchard win the World Wave Windsurf Title this year, be nominated for the Laureus World sportsman of the year award in Barcelona, BUT ALSO he got on the front cover of one of my favorite local papers.
Talk about accomplishments. Woohoo!

Bitter Sweet

Call me a dork, but I really do like my astronomy class. This afternoon I walked into my class right on time with my hot tea latte and sweater ready to get comfy for the "story time" of Astronomy. We already skipped one class last week because it was spring break so today I was ready to learn and looking forward to class. Not to mention, I cut my surfing time down to make it to class on time. So I walked in class and no one was there... dead quite. I thought I totally mixed up my days and checked my watch to see if I was on the right time and checked my phone to see if I had the right day. I checked outside and on the door a sign posted Class Canceled. OK, usually students are super happy when classes are canceled ( which I was a little), but I actually was kind of bumbed out. Sad story, I know. I just have to wait till next week!

A+ !?!

This afternoon my day was made in my History class. My class just turned in a pretty big essay assignment right before spring break. History is not one of my better subjects, this is why I am able to be proud of my A+ paper! In front of the whole class the teacher was talking about how the essays were.. blah blah blah AND THEN when I was barely paying attention she said " and for Tatiana I really enjoyed your paper and thought it was really well written, clear and over all fun to read." I couldn't believe it! She liked mine! Are you serious?! Then I picked up my paper with a 100% and was so shocked and happy that it was actually true. Its weird because I thought I wasn't going to do good on the essay and did well. While on the other hand in my Science class I felt so good about a test and got a average grade. Weird how it seems to always work like that!

Bamboo Forest

We surfed in the morning with glassy over head high waves and then I showed them one of my favorite spots on the island.. the bamboo forest. I love hiking through the bamboo and swimming in the pond at the end.
